Denny: I do not remember a time when I did not attend church and Sunday School.
I was taught from childhood that we are saved by faith not by works asit is written in Galatians 2:16 and in the books of Romans, Ephesians and the Gospel of John.As I grew in my Christian walk I learned my faith must be balanced and proven by my actions. In the Letter of James (2:17-18) we are told faith by itself if not accompanies by action is dead. James, the half brother of Christ, also tells us, "show my your faith without deeds and I'll show you my faith by what I do."
My wife, Linda, and I were married in 1971 at Cedar Grove Church. We began attending Cedar Grove in 1999 for several reasons. Cedar Grove is close to our home, it was Linda's home church and her Mother attended here. We have been active church members all of our married lives and have tried to rear our four children with a foundation in Christ.
When the congregation at Cedar Grove called us as deacons in 2007 we felt we were moving in the direction the Lord wanted us to go. We are very happy with the opportunities we are having as deacons to serve the Lord through service to others.
Linda: The Bible says in Psalm37:5: "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this:"
I have attended church most of my life. In 1980, two months after our youngest son was born, I spent twelve days at Riley Children's Hospital with our son who had head surgery. The soft spot in his head had grown shut. While I was there I learned to trust God for all my needs. I turned our son over to him and I would learn to live with whatever happened. Our son is healthy and will be 32 years old in December. God has blessed me in so many ways since I learned to trust Him in all things.
I have been coming to Cedar Grove Church for 12 years this time. Denny and I were married at Cedar Grove Church in 1971. The church we attended in Greenville, Ohio fell apart. We wanted to attend a church in our community. My mother attended CGC when we came. We made friends fast and enjoyed doing service for the church and community.
We were voted deacons by the CGC congregation. There is no greater service to God than helping people in need and being friends in Christ's love. Love Feast has a special place in my heart. I love serving the Lord through helping others.
