Cedar Grove 125 Years
In 1894 eleven members of the
Price’s Creek Church of the Brethren living in the now Cedar Grove area, wanted
to build a church in our current location. A grove of cedar trees in an
adjoining lot influenced the name “Cedar Grove.” A 36’ x 46’ meeting house was
erected and dedicated on July 29, 1894, with Henry Frantz in charge of the
One hundred twenty five years later
on Saturday August 24, 2019, we will celebrate that anniversary with an Ice
Cream and Pizza Social from 4:30 to 6:30 or until the food runs out! Bring your
lawn chairs and an appetite. “Simply Sweet” owned by Dennis Delk and family
will provide Homemade Ice Cream and Woodfired Pizzas.
The celebration continues the next
day with soon to be 96 year old Miriam Moore contributing to the church service
by playing with a family member an organ and piano duet. Your are invited to
stay after the service for a carry-in lunch that will follow in the FLC. Meat
and drinks will be provided so make plans to celebrate one hundred twenty five
years of B.R.I.D.G.E. ing People to Christ.
found here is a result of generations of parents who have passed down their
love of God. Their sacrifices to God’s cause and love of the Lord have kept
this church vibrant and actively spreading God’s word. Many examples exist
throughout the years of this rural church’s generosity and support for the
community. With that being said, Cedar Grove is dealing with a trend that is
challenging most churches in the nation seeing a decline in charitable giving.
Our hope is with this anniversary
that the membership of Cedar Grove has a renewed sense of the generosity needed
to continue and maintain our rich heritage. Each one takes from this place a
portion of God’s treasure. Our prayer for this church is it will continue to
set an example, teach the Bible, and reach out to share an open invitation to God’s
people everywhere as we continue our Mission at Cedar Grove to be
B.R.I.D.G.E.ing People to Christ-likeness.
